Well, you may have wondered where I went… not very far, but I have had some time off with my kids and then refuelling myself. In that time I have read a few books, and as a way back in I thought I would quote from a person that I think will interest most of you… whether you are techy or a fellow God-Chaser. A man that many love to hate, and some follow with a religious fanaticism: Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer.
I am not aware that he is a man with faith, or even what he thinks of the afterlife. He speaks of choice in a way that I know many people in the world (and on work abroad with YWAM, I have met some of them personally) do not have. Many just have to try and make ends meet and get through the day being able to feed their families. but for those of us who have been placed by forces outside of ourselves, with the luxury of choice, Steve’s words I believe should make us at least think:
For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something… almost everything - all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
